The inflammation of the appendix is called appendicitis. An appendix is 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue extending from the large intestine. Appendix is a vestigeal apparatus and one can live even if appendix is removed from body, without apparent consequences.
In case of Appendicitis, one needs to go for immediate Laparoscopic Surgery to remove the appendix & it is considered a medical emergency. If it is not treated timely, it can lead to inflammation & eventually burst or perforate and spills infectious materials into the abdominal cavity, resulting in peritonitis which, if not treated quickly with strong antibiotics can be fatal to patient’s life.

Surgery is the only treatment for Appendicitisto remove the appendix, which is called an appendectomy
Dr Randeep Wadhawan has great experience of removing Appendix using Laparoscopic or Minimal Access Technique. Procedure requires tiny 3 small incisions of size 0.25 inches to 0.5 incheslong at abdomen. Then, a Laparoscopic Surgeon inserts an instruments with view tool called laproscope helping surgeon to view inside view on external monitor in operation theatre & perform the appendectomy through key holes .Dr Wadhawan is one of the very few surgeons who is also performing Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery(SILS).The procedure takes 30 minutes and the patient can be discharged in most cases in one day.
Advantage of Laparascopic Appendectomy
- Recovery fast
- Less painful
- Quick recovery from hospital
- Early return to normal routine
